The Institute of Management Development was established in 1978 by Olaf Isachsen, Ph.D.

Olaf Isachsen was born in 1933 and grew up in his native country of Norway. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard and his Ph.D. from Michigan State, concentrating on organizational development and communication. In academic life, he has been Associate Professor and Director of the MBA program at California Polytechnic Institute, Visiting Professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business Administration and guest lecturer at several universities including Brigham Young University and Notre Dame. 

Olaf visted the Carl Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland many times & fell in love with the country. One could often find him hiking in Chateau-d"Oex in the Swiss Alps enjoying nature and the peacefulness he found there.

Dr. Isachsen has been a consultant to numerous corporations- Bechtel, The Kaiser Companies, Weyerhauser, Olin-American, Hewlett-Packard, Korn/Ferry International and Wells Fargo Bank. He has also worked for the U.S. and Australian Departments of Defense, assisting in developing major defense contracts. A recognized expert in communications, his work centers around integrating the visions and goals of senior managers with the human resources and organizational structure available to them. 

A prolific writer, Dr. Isachsen has written case studies on management for Harvard University, and published numerous articles in the Journal of Applied Management, The Journal of Thought, and Personnel Administrator. 

After Olaf's passing on December 13th, 2013, his daughter Camilla Emond wanted to continue the legacy of his books through IMD. These books are available through our website or directly via our email address: campie@centurytel.net
